I just got an interesting article from a member of the site about the Camelot site out at Giant Cement quarry in Harleyville, SC. He has some interesting thoughts so I put it under the Fossil Articles for you to read. What do you think?

Opinion on the Origin and Future of the Camelot Site at Giant Cement Quarry by Matty Swilp

You know, that is a very good point. I have never been to the "Camelot" site, or even heard about it before joing BRF, but this does seem more plausible than a simple flood. This site may have also been a predator trap such as the mentioned La brea tar pits. However, the problem with it being like La Brea, is that the tar pits are caused by pockets of raw oil leaking through the surface and being covered in water, giving off the illusion of being a safe, shallow pond. The limestone kills that idea. But if it did become a sinkhole, it could have had the same effect. One or two animals falling to their deaths is plausible, but predators are significantly smarter. They see a gapping hole in the ground, they won't jump head first for no reason. However, they probably smelled or saw the rotting flesh of the camels, tapirs, and other small animals trapped in it to tempt them enough to jump in, only to become trapped. As for the rarity of these animals, if it was one species, then the flood idea is supported because of packs being wipped out as in the case of a group of Albertasaurs excavated in the early 00's by Phil Currie. But the presence of Wolves, lions, saber-toothed cats, and others makes me think that the writer is correct. There is one other theroy that is possible. Maybe, this had been a "poison" ground. Some sort of gas, maybe leaking from the limestone, could have suffocated many different animals, attracting many different carnivores to their deaths while feeding on said herbivores. Possibly even a volcano (although this is doubtfull, thanks to the lack of volcanic ash) was resposible. Whether it was a flood, a drought, or suffocation, all that is certain is that this is an amazing site at which animals that once lived on this earth, and will probably never live again, can be found and studied. This site MUST be preserved. Thank you Matty for opening our eyes.

WOW! very interesting article. I wished I lived up there with you all and had the opportunities and sites that you have. But I will have to settle for where I am at(TEXAS) , for now anyway. Keep up the good work and FIGHT for the preservation of sites like these, because like you said, "once they are gone, they are GONE!!!!!!"
