Posting for Megornot:  He's got the story...

The Ric is a 3 & 3/16" anterior and the spear head identifys as a Snooks Kill Point, I had to make a a joke when these were found that the early woodland cultures in Onslow County were spear fishing for Auriculatus in the New River, but it could've been that the Auriculatus ate the hunter and all that remained was the spear head. But the real deal is that the spear head dates back between 6 to 10 thousand years and all of us shark fanatics know that the Ric's were long gone way before this cukture took up in Onslow County. Found in early "2009" by one of the greatest scuba hunters in NC. with locational assist from the Megornot.

Very nice thats a good day for sure, anyone in for some cold weather diving? wont find any sharks teeth but I bet we can find some points, just make sure you have your hobby license and Im game, lol
I also have a few places somewhere else I think will for sure hold some artifacts, and I dont think anyone has ever dived there ever, Im not sure what the depth probably not over 40 feet is and I am sure there may be some entanglement hazards, we would for sure have to do an expedtion or two before we could really get to doing some hunting if we can...
anyways again them are some super finds and a twofer lol

Beautiful. What do you think is more exciteing? Finding an arrowhead or finding a tooth

That's a good question, but I would have to go for the big Ric tooth. If our early ancestors in this area knew how to find those razor sharp Ric teeth and hooked those up to the spear handle they would've had one bad weapon to hunt with and wouldn't have to chip at stones so much to make the spear heads. I do know that if I want to hunt for spear heads we sure have them up here and probably some other early human artifacts.

All the best! Megornot

Where I hunt is actually an ancient river bed that filled in with sediments over many years. I generally find bone and other fossils near the New River, but not at the river itself. Look for pebbles piled up in the creek and check near very sharp turns, if it has them. I always find things near these pile up areas. Small creeks can suprise you sometimes too. That's why all the fuss about GMR in Greenville, it is just a small creek, but location is everything and that creek is carving into a shallow fossil layer. Get out there and dig in Mike, I would love to see more arrowheads & spearheads too.

Megornot gave you some ecxellant advice, It seems alot of times I will find broken glass where I find points, I reckon they kinda float the same in the currents, Look for places like Megornot said and theres a darn good chance you`ll find something...Good luck and happy hunting

Copy, Ronbo! You have also found the way of the fossil footprint. I've learned to never leave a rolled quartz pile unchecked.

Thanks, Ive found more than two points, but my room is a disaster zone and I can't find them. Its funny because one of the places my grandparents own is around 5 acres with a wide creek going through most of it, but I ALWAYS find my points in the 1 acre area that my grandpa used to farm alot. I havent ever searched for much in the creek besides frogs though. Theres a pretty old dam in the woods there that might have something by it. The water wheel was taken out about 75 years ago. They also own another piece of land with gold on it wich could help finance my fossil hunting! :)
